Dr. Hanumanthappa Krishnamurthy

Dr. H. Krishnamurthy was working as Scientific Officer ‘G’ and Head of Research Facilities at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bangalore. After superannuation, he is working as Advisor, Central Imaging & Flow Cytometry Facility, NCBS-TIFR and Adjunct Professor at St John’s Research Institute, Bangalore. His research interest is on hormonal regulation of spermatogenesis and trafficking and signaling of gonadotropin receptors. He has published more than 60 research papers in peer reviewed international journals, test book chapters and has edited a book on Applications of Flow Cytometry in Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine. Holds U.S. patent 9,304,122, Japan patent JP20140555375, S. Africa patent 2014/06473, Russia patent 201400870 (2011). for microfluidics based flow cytometer.

Dr. Krishnamurthy  obtained his B.Sc (CBZ) from Vijaya College, Bangalore, M.Sc (Reproductive Biology) from Bangalore University and PhD from Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Had his postdoctoral training at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine, Muenster, Germany, Institute for Clinical Research, Montreal, Canada and University of Iowa, Iowa, USA. Later, he moved to Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, Columbia University, New York, USA as Associate Research Scientist and Managing Director of the flow cytometry facility. He has served as the Live Education Task Force member  of International Society for Advancement of Cytometry. He is a board member of Global BioImaging Consortium. He has also served as the Secretary of The Cytometry Society of India. He is serving as member of Board of Studies of Madras University and Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

Dr. Stephen Ogg

Lead Scientist for the optical microscopy team in the Imaging & Characterization Core.

Dr. Stephen Ogg is an expert in optical microscopy, imaging core management, and advanced imaging technologies. He leads the Imaging & Characterization Corelab at KAUST, overseeing state-of-the-art imaging resources supporting bioscience and materials science research.

Previously, he managed imaging cores at the University of Alberta, Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, and A*STAR Singapore. With a Ph.D. in Cell Biology (UCSF) and an MBA in Finance (University of Alberta), Dr. Ogg has contributed to microscopy quality assurance guidelines and led global workshops on advanced imaging techniques. Passionate about education and innovation, he develops workflows for sample preparation, image acquisition, and data analysis.

Dr. Rachid Rezgui

Dr. Rachid Rezgui is a specialist in optical microscopy, advanced imaging technologies, and quantitative bioimaging. As the Manager of the Imaging Core Facility at NYU Abu Dhabi, he focuses on super-resolution microscopy, live-cell imaging, and high-content screening. With extensive experience in fluorescence imaging, confocal microscopy, and image analysis, he supports multidisciplinary research in cell biology, neuroscience, and biomedical sciences.

Dr. Rezgui has been instrumental in developing imaging workflows, training researchers, and optimizing advanced microscopy techniques. Passionate about mentoring scientists and enhancing imaging methodologies, he continues to drive innovation in biophotonics, quantitative imaging, and high-resolution microscopy applications.

William (Bill) Telford

William (Bill) Telford received his Ph.D. in microbiology from Michigan State University in 1994, where his laboratory developed some of the earliest techniques for flow cytometric detection of apoptosis.  He received his postdoctoral training in immunology at The University of Michigan Medical School, was appointed assistant scientist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City from 1997 to 1999.  Dr. Telford became a Staff Scientist at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in 1999, and is currently a Senior Associate Scientist and director of the flow cytometry core laboratory in the NCI Laboratory of Pathology.  Dr. Telford’s main research interests include advanced instrument and assay design and development aimed at solving unusual problems in flow cytometry and cell biology.

Laboratory: The Make Your Own Flow Cytometer.  The best way to learn how flow cytometers work is to build one!  We will assemble the Make Your Own Flow Cytometer, a real cytometer than can be assembled into a working instrument from individual structural, optical, fluidic and electronic parts.  This laboratory is a unique opportunity to learn how flow cytometry works by actually building a functional instrument.
