RAPID 2024

The inaugural Recent Advances in Primary Immunodysregulation Disorders (RAPID) conference was held at Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar, from 9-10 May 2024.

RAPID 2024 was the first conference in the region dedicated to primary immunodysregulation disorders to be held in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, USA.

The two-day conference welcomed approximately 250 attendees from more than 20 countries, including participants from across the Middle East, North Africa and Türkiye (MENAT) region, as well as international participants from the United States, Europe and Asia.

The scientific program brought together 45 speakers, moderators and panelists from Qatar, the MENAT region, NIAID/NIH and leading international institutions to share advances in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of primary immunodysregulation disorders.

Conference Highlights

A key highlight of RAPID 2024 was the Vicki Modell Memorial Lecture, held in honor of the late Vicki Modell, co-founder of the Jeffrey Modell Foundation, a global charitable organization supporting patients and families affected by primary immune diseases and advancing research in these disorders.

The memorial lecture was delivered by Dr. Jennifer Puck from San Francisco, a world-renowned pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of severe combined immunodeficiency.

In addition to poster presentations, 11 abstracts were selected for oral presentations. Jeffrey Modell Foundation Travel Awards supported young doctors and scientists from across the region, including participants from lower-income countries, enabling them to attend the conference and present their research.

The Career Development Panel was another highlight of the conference, bringing together trainees and panelists from Sidra Medicine, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar University, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Mohammed Bin Rashid University in the UAE.

RAPID 2024 helped increase awareness and understanding of rare immune disorders among scientists and clinicians from different medical specialties. By sharing the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment, the conference supported the goal of earlier diagnosis and access to advanced and personalized therapies for patients with immune disorders.
